Description

dBV is an absolute voltage measurement referenced to 1 volt RMS. A voltage of 1V equals 0 dBV, 10V equals 20 dBV, and 100mV equals -20 dBV. This unit is common in professional audio, consumer electronics specifications, and signal level analysis. Unlike dBu, dBV is referenced to a fixed voltage regardless of impedance, making it straightforward for voltage measurements. Most consumer audio line-level signals are specified at approximately -10 dBV (316 mV RMS).
